Pair of brass push-up candlesticks, likely French or English, 19th century. They measure 7 3/4" high and are 4 1/8" in diameter at the base. Simple shaft form, with flared lip and round stepped base, with brass knob to adjust candle height. This form is often referred to as a "hog scraper", though the form is more often found in tin or other similar metal. The push up mechanisms work well, and can be easily adjusted. Signs of usage are evident, slight dents to base, wear, with wax and other residue visible in cup and on surface. Nice honey gold patina, they have not been cleaned. Though this form is often described as French, similar sticks were also made in England, many exported to the US. Please see all photos for details and email any questions.
